Beer Writer Brian Yaeger And His Wife "Half Pint" Launch Inn Beervana B&B: Bed & Beer
The most popular question I get asked at this site is "I'm coming to Portland, where should I stay?" I can always recommend areas of town near to beer, but I can't really recommend hotels any better than Yelp since I get the luxury of staying in my own house when in Portland. I can't in good conscience recommend places I haven't stayed. Well, until now.
Brian Yaeger (beer writer, beer traveler, beer drinker) and his wife have relocated to Portland and have started up Inn Beervana. This is a private detached apartment in the SE Hawthorne Neighborhood that they are now booking as a great spot to start your beer journeys in Portland. What could be better than a great place to stay in Portland, hosted by people who know Portland beer?
I think that this is an important piece of the Portland beer puzzle, especially for people visiting our city and looking for the very best beer we have to offer. Maybe I should crash there for a night and see what kind of trouble I can get into--and of course, report back here with scandalous photos and gossip. Until then, check out the details from the official press release below:
Beervana, OR, Aug 1, 2011 – Inn Beervana is a new B&B, bed and beer, for visitors coming to explore Portland’s beer culture and that of the greater Pacific Northwest. The loft apartment is detached and offers complete comfort and privacy in a relaxing, central location. It sleeps four comfortably and includes a full kitchen. Upon checking in, guests will find a mixed six-pack of Oregon craft beer in the fridge (or a bottle of local wine if preferred).
“We have talked about doing something like this for years,” says Yaeger, author of the book Red, White, and Brew: An American Beer Odyssey and contributor to beer magazines and blogs. “I’ve beer tripped throughout the entire country. Cheap motels or expensive hotels have a way of marring otherwise great beercations. By converting our detached apartment into a hop-artment, I think we can provide an ideal home base for people looking to discover what makes Portland ‘Beervana.’”
Inn Beervana is located in the Hawthorne District of Southeast Portland, walking distance from many of the destinations beer lovers have high atop their bucket lists such as the world-famous Horse Brass Pub, Belmont Station bottle shop and the adjoining Biercafe, as well as myriad tap houses, restaurants, quintessential food cart pods, and parks. The McMenamin Bros. brewpub and theater that anchors the neighborhood, the Baghdad Café, is two blocks away. Downtown is only 15-20 minutes away by bus or bike with two bus lines almost out the front door.
Known in beer circles as Half Pint, the tidier half of the innkeeping duo has a degree in art and design and hand painted the giant hop mural adorning the apartment’s entire western wall. The room features a luxurious queen bed with another queen mattress above in the loft. Plenty of lounging space, TV/DVD/VCR, and free wi-fi round out the quarters. Guests enter through a private garden area that they are free to enjoy.
