The two-hour afternoon class takes ladies on an entertaining and educational tour of several beer styles, as Lisa shares tips on pairing beer with food, cooking with beer -- participants even get a take-home recipe book -- and great stories about beer's HERstory (instead of history). Light fare in the form of finger food and tapas will be provided so students don't get hungry!

So let's do our part to make these children as happy and as comfortable as possible!

Bikes 'n' Brew is a century ride that stops at four craft breweries; the premiere event for cycling microbrew lovers in North America. Departing from scenic Portland's tree-shaded east side, the route takes riders over Mt. Hood and down the back side to the majestic Columbia River Gorge.

The 100-mile ride is fairly challenging, with one large climb and a series of rolling hills as the route approaches Hood River. However, frequent beer and food breaks help dull the pain. Also, the downhill off the back side of Mt. Hood is so much fun you'll forget how much work it was climbing to the top of the pass.

2009-01-14 - 2009-01-14
Considered "The Burgundys of Belgium". This is exquisite ale made with a blend of wild and domestic yeast strains. Brewed two years ago, 3/4 of this beer spent eleven months of it's life in neutral Pinot Noir French Oak barrels. It was then re-blended with the remainder of the original Flanders Red that had been cellaring since it's conception. After going through a secondary fermentation, we cellared it again for the last eight months. This Belgian beer is extremely smooth with a fruity nose that will leave no senses untouched. This will be available in limited, one liter bottles and on draft at Roots Organic Brewery exclusively.

Oregon Brewers Festival
2008-07-24 - 2008-07-27
In 1933 the 21st Amendment to the United States Constitution repealed the 18th Amendment, which had mandated nationwide Prohibition. Since the Oregon Brewers Festival turns 21 this year, the event finds it fitting to celebrate the ratification of the 21st Amendment during its four-day course. One of the nation's longest-running and best-loved craft beer festivals will take place July 24 through July 27 at Tom McCall Waterfront Park in downtown Portland. Hours are Noon to 9 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and Noon to 7 p.m. Sunday.

Seventy-two craft breweries from 18 different states will each send one product to serve at the event, hailed by many industry experts and beer fans alike as the premier craft beer festival in the nation. A 73rd beer, Collaborator, is a joint project between members of the Oregon Brew Crew homebrewing club and Widmer Brothers Brewing Co. More than 60,000 beer connoisseurs annually travel from around the world to sample the vast number of beer styles, which highlight the influences that different regions have on the brewing process.

Joining the breweries are industry exhibits by hop growers, homebrewers, breweriana collectors, and national beer writers. Four days of live music showcases the best high-energy talent the Northwest has to offer. Food booths sell meals and alternative beverages, while the Crater Lake Soda Garden provides handcrafted sodas free of charge to minors and designated drivers. Minors are allowed into the event when accompanied by a parent.

Admission to the festival grounds is free; however, a 2008 souvenir mug costing $5 is required for consuming beer. The mug is good for all four days, and mugs from previous years will not be filled. All beer is purchased with tokens, which cost $1 apiece. Patrons pay four tokens for a full mug of beer, or one token for a taste. Sales of mugs and tokens cease 1/2-hour each evening prior to the close of the event.

Alternative modes of transportation are encouraged, with free bicycle parking available each day. The main entrance at SW Oak Street and Naito Parkway is located one block from the MAX Light Rail line.

The Oregon Brewers Festival takes place during Oregon Craft Beer Month, a celebration of craft beer by Oregon's specialty breweries. A variety of special events will take place at craft breweries throughout the state, culminating with the Oregon Brewers Festival.

The Oregon Brewers Festival was founded in 1988 as an opportunity to expose the public to microbrews at a time when the craft brewing industry was just getting off the ground. Today, that industry has succeeded, especially in Oregon, and particularly in the city of Portland. There are currently 89 craft brewing facilities in Oregon, and 32 breweries operating within the Portland city limits - more than any other city in the world. The Portland metropolitan area boasts 40 breweries, making it the largest craft brewing market in the United States.

For more information about the Oregon Brewers Festival, visit www.oregonbrewfest.com or call 503-778-5917.

North American Organic Brewer's Festival

The North American Organic Brewers Festival (NAOBF) returns to Portland's Overlook Park on Friday, June 27th, 3:00 to 9:00 p.m., Saturday, June 28th, 12:00 to 9:00 p.m., Sunday, June 29th, 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. The event is Free and open to the public. Participation in beer tasting is $5 for a reusable, yet compostable, cornstarch tasting glass and samples are $1 a ticket. Children are welcome with guardians. Service animals only. Beer sales are restricted to people 21 years and older with valid ID. Discount of $1 off of tasting glass with validated MAX ticket or three (3) 4 oz cans of food. No Parking is provided for this event, making Tri-Met's MAX Yellow line the easiest way to attend.

The North American Organic Brewers Festival celebrates the diversity and range of beer styles being brewed organically; from pilsner to pale ale, saison to stout, amber ale to lambics. Brewers from across Cascadia, the heart of organic brewing, pour their beers alongside organic pioneers from Europe, such as Pinkus Mueller from Muenster, Germany. Oregon, Washington, British Columbia and Northern California, often referred to as Cascadia, lead the continent in the number of organic breweries, with nearly half of Oregon's 80 breweries having produced an organic beer since the first Organic Brewers Symposium in 2002.

In its fourth year, the festival will again feature organic beers from across North America, and Europe. The 2007 event poured 50 organic beers to 7000 people and raised over $2000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the Oregon Tilth (a certification body dedicated to organic agriculture), and also brought in hundreds of cans of food for the Oregon Food Bank.

(EXCLUDING MERCHANDISE) Come join all the fun with live music, great food and the release of our Anniversary/Spring beer, Belgian, Farmhouse Bruin. 6% ABV. Also known as bi'ere du pays, (country beers), farmhouse ales were brewed in between end of winter and early spring. Farmhouse ales branch off into two families, Saison and Bi'ere de garde, Saison predominantly from southern Belgium and Bi'ere de garde from northern France. They vary in styles, alcohol, body and color. The nice thing about brewing within either one of these styles is that one can brew out side the box. These beers we're brewed more - less out of necessity, "provision beer", to drink during the rest of the year.

FredFest 2007
2007-05-12 - 2007-05-12
PORTLAND, Ore. - What started last year as a surprise 80th birthday party for world-renowned beer writer Fred Eckhardt is coming back around this year as a fundraiser to assist a longtime friend and supporter of the state's craft-beer community.

At least a dozen rare and unusual beers created by Oregon breweries will be featured at FredFest 2007. The event will take place from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 12 at Hair of the Dog Brewing, 4509 SE 23rd Avenue in Portland.

Cost for the event is $20 in advance or $25 at the door and includes a souvenir glass. To get on the list for advance-purchase tickets, e-mail fredfest@comcast.net.

Spring Beer and Wine Festival
2007-04-06 - 2007-04-07
Here's the formula: take a native Oregonian, Steve Woolard, and endow him with an appreciation of the fine food and drink, the enthusiasm to share these delights with the community and you have the foundation of a festival.
