Scenes from the 2012 Barrel Aged Beer Seminar
June 14, 2012
by Matt Wiater

Last night, I attended the Barrel Aged Beer Seminar and Tasting, part of a lineup of events for Portland Beer Week. The event centered around 11 different barrel aged beers from four different breweries, with a panel member representing each brewery: Ben Edmunds from Breakside Brewery, Mitch Steele from Stone Brewing, Matt Van Wyk from Oaksire Brewing, and Doug Rehberg from Widmer Brothers Brewing. Like last year, it was a casual event with Ben Edmunds... Read More »

What happens if you say Skookumchuck three times quickly? Unfortunately, nothing. Though people will look at you. And you'll be wasting time. Instead, you should be heading down to Belmont Station between 5pm and 8pm tonight to get your hands on a very limited quantity of Skookumchuck Wild Ale from Oakshire Brewing. Belmont Station has a few cases of Skookumchuck 750ml for sale at $19.99 each along with Skookumchuck, Hellshire II, and Ill Tempered Gnome... Read More »

Not only will you get the chance to purchase a bottle of this superb beer, but... Read More »
Oakshire Brewing to Release Hellshire I

We can file this under "not-so-portland-but-oh-so-worthy-news". Oakshire is not just stepping into the barrel aged beer scene, they're kicking in the doors and stomping forward with this aggressive inaugural release in their new barrel aged beer series. Oakshire doesn't mind setting... Read More »

This just in from Matt Van Wyk of Oakshire Brewing: For several years, a group of brewers have been brewing unique, distinctive beers in an experiment of sorts that aims to demonstrate the diversity in brewing styles, techniques, and ingredients. South of Portland: Oakshire Brewing in Eugene

Matt Van Wyk, Oakshire Brewing. Our last stop of the day was Oakshire Brewing, in an industrial section of Northwest Eugene. While it's not an easy walk from downtown, it's definitely worth the trip to check out their offerings. It's currently only open on Saturdays for samples, but they have plans to expand your experience. From their website: "Oakshire Brewing’s tasting room is open every Saturday from 12-4pm for tastings and tours. We currently are... Read More »
Oakshire Brewing to release bottles of Watershed IPA and Overcast Espresso Stout

Last week, I got a press release from Oakshire Brewing in Eugene, OR. Nope, not a Portland beer, but if you've been able to taste their brews, you'll agree that everyone should keep an eye on them. Almost exactly a year ago, Oakshire Brewing emerged after a bit of legal prodding forced a name change from Willamette Brewing. They have continued to haul their beer and brand all over oregon throughout the year and are... Read More »
Oakshire Brewing Expands, Adds Brewmaster
I received a press release from Oakshire Brewing Company with some information on their expansion and an introduction to Matt Van Wyk (a brewer from Flossmoor Station whose reputation precedes him by a mile). I don't know much about Oakshire personally, so I'll pass the press release on verbatim below.I was able to taste some of of Oakshire's brews at last year's Oregon Brewer Festival and OBF Brewers Dinner. Oakshire appeared at the dinner with... Read More »
